Oakmont at Granite Bay
by Sarah Buchanan The Granite Bay Grizzlies went on to win their homecoming game against the Oakmont Vikings on Friday night. The Grizzlies dominated the entire first half, starting with a safety given up by Oakmont’s quarterback Alex Ford in the first minute of the game. Granite Bay’s Ian Rhodes was wide open for most of the night and made four touchdown catches. The first half ended with a 37-0 score. Oakmont’s offense was able to pick it up in the second half, but it was just a little too late. At the end of the third quarter, Senior Alex Ford threw a touchdown pass to Senior Fred Mobley to put the Vikings on the board. The quarter ended at 44-7. In the first several minutes of the fourth quarter, Junior Michael Garrison intercepted the Granite Bay quarterback to put the Vikings back into Grizzly territory. Head Coach Tim Moore told his players to go for the first down on a fourth and ten, which was successful. Several minutes later, Ford found Senior Hollis Duke in the end zone giving the Vikings another touchdown. The late game surge was due to the “power style running game that isolated Mobley for a one-on-one play that ended in a touchdown,” said Moore. With about seven minutes left in the game, the score was 44-14. Granite Bay was able to score another touchdown with less than three minutes left, just as the rain started to pick up. The final score was 51-14. Even though they dropped down to fifth place in league, Oakmont’s playoff hopes are still within reach, as long as they win the game this Friday versus Del Oro. “We’re going to try to attack the teams weaker areas,” Moore stated. “Because we did so well in preseason, we’ve got a chance,” he concluded. |
