AP courses are they right for you?
AP course are designed to deliver college materials to high school students
at an accelerated pace. This type of course
requires a deep commitment from the students who must study long and
put in extra hours to produce college level work. In the spring students
have the opportunity to take AP exams administered through the College
Board. Colleges and Universities may award entering freshmen units.
The score one must achieve to be eligible and the units awarded are determined
by each college or university.
While
the costs in time and effort are high there are rewards. Students are
able to challenge themselves, build skills for college and stand out
in college admissions. Board Policy excerpts found in the OHS
Course Catalog explain the availability of weighted grades given
to some courses. Please read the Catalog for further details.
While it may sound like all business in AP classes there is a lighter
side. You meet some new people that you have things in common with that
you might not have known before. If you like classes that you are always
working in and you like meeting new people, these courses are just for
you!
These are some of the courses offered at Oakmont. It includes the teachers
names and when they teach the course.

Quotes From Some Of The Teachers and Students:
Campbell:
"An economic forecaster is like a cross-eyed javelin
thrower: they don't win many accuracy contests, but they keep the crowd's attention!"
Borgeson:
"AP European History is the most exciting class I have
had the privilege of teaching. I can't believe that I get paid to help these
kids learn about all of this wonderful material! Here's to Machiavelli, Napoleon,
and Beethoven!!"

Kerns:
"Advanced Placement classes prepare students for the
rigor they will face in college classes. My students write to me from Berkeley,
Harvard, Cal Poly...they tell me that these 2 classes prepared them for the writing
they do in all of their college classes. AP is a great place to be for students
who truly want to succeed in college."
DeGooyer:
"Because of the widespread use of statistics,
a familiarity of the techniques is vital in today's society. Also, many college
majors require at least one course in statistics. Because of the way the
course is designed with a huge technology component in the graphing calculator,
it will be like no other math course you've had!"
Perkins:
"A student's knowledge of math is the number one indicator
of who will graduate from college."
