Maintaining Student Safety
Parking, Student Drop Off and Student Pick Up
As you are well aware, we have a potentially dangerous situation
everyday before and after school. The danger exists each day when
more than 2,000 students arrive within a 30-45 minute period of time
and exit after school in a 15-20 minute time frame. We continue to
witness drivers make bad decisions that endanger pedestrians and
cause accidents. As I have mentioned in previous newsletters and
at parent nights, please be reminded of the following procedures:
-- Do not drop students off on Cirby Way. It is illegal and causes multiple problems for traffic on this very busy street.
-- Never drop a student off from a center lane of traffic or across the street, which necessitates your students to cross lanes of traffic. Not only is this illegal, it is extremely dangerous.
-- Adjust the times you drop off and pick up your student if possible. From 7:20 - 7:30, student drop off before school is much less crowded. From 2:45 – 3:00, the parking lot is much less crowded for student pick up. If you can adjust your schedule by just a 10 or 15 minutes, you will make Oakmont parking lots and areas surrounding the school much safer and less stressful.
